Katerina Dounavi is the clinical director and founder of the Centre "Magiko Sympan" in Athens, Greece. She is an Educational Psychologist (BSc- Hons, MEd-Hons), the first Board Certified Behavior Analyst in Greece (MSc- Hons, BCBA) and is currently completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid.



Katerina completed her studies in Psychology with Honours at the Kapodistrian University of Athens and was afterwards awarded her Master´s degree in Educational Psychology with Honours and a special distinction at the Complutense University of Madrid. After that, she was enrolled in a Master´s degree in Behavior Analysis with emphasis in Pervasive Developmental Disorders becoming the first student of ABA España to be certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) in Spain and at the same time being the first Board Certified Behavior Analyst in Greece (BCBA). Katerina is now enrolled in the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid and is actively engaged in research. Also, she has presented and published research projects in scientific congresses and journals, she has attended training seminars and workshops, she has been supervised by and has collaborated with prestigious Psychologists and Behavior Analysts worldwide, such as Brian Iwata (the most active researcher in Behavior Analysis), Gladys Williams (founder of the CIEL centre in Spain and director of the Applied Behaviour Consultant Services in New York), María Ángeles Rebollar (Applied Behavior Analysis Consultant in Madrid and ex-supervisor at the Princeton Child Development Institute in U.S.A., one of the best centres for children, youths, and adults with autism worldwide), María José Díaz Agüado and Rosario Martínez Arias (the most active researchers in Spain in school violence, bullying, preventive programmes design for the entire educative community and similar investigation subjects).

Katerina Dounavi actively participates in research projects and transfers this up-to-date knowledge to the clinical practice, using at the same time a reliable way of measuring the therapeutic results and guaranteeing the best possible intervention. In her approach, the Analysis of Verbal Behavior (Skinner, 1957) is an essential conceptual guide to the teaching of language, as it includes the most effective teaching procedures known till now for the development and improvement of children´s verbal behavior.

In the last 10 years, she has worked as an Educational Psychologist-Behavior Analyst with more than 100 children, adolescents and families, supervising their therapeutic programmes and integration in different community settings, such as mainstream schools, outdoor activities with peers, special education schools, residential settings, hospitals and home based programmes. Katerina has also worked at the Down Syndrome Foundation of Madrid (FSDM), on of the biggest non-profit organizations for people with Down Syndrome and their families in Spain. She has supervised workshops for parents and has trained other professionals, such as psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, teachers and others in numerous schools in Madrid, as a member of the Preventive Unit of Psychology of the Complutense University of Madrid. Also, she has worked for the Local Authorities in the United Kingdom, evaluating and designing individualized programmes for children with special needs and training their teachers and the assistant school staff. Currently, Katerina is working as an Educational Psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst with children, adolescents and their families in Greece, Spain, United Kingdom, and in Germany.
